PVD Coatings

Wear, abrasion particles and the increased release of nickel, cobalt and chrome ions are proven to be the main causes of origin of inflammation and allergies and can lead to premature loosening of the prosthesis. A complete biocompatible ceramic surface coating on metallic implant components has a beneficial effect on reducing both allergic reactions and wear.

For generation of ceramic hard coatings on implants a special arc evaporation technique (PVD - Physical Vapour Deposition) is used by the addition of nitrogen. PVD Coatings - PDF: 300 KB

DOT offers ceramic coatings as follows:

Titanium Nitride (TiN)

An arc with high current density is run over the target material causing it to evaporate and to release titanium atoms, which are ionised and propelled towards the implant. Read more>>

Zirkonium Nitride (ZrN)

An arc with high current density is run over the target material causing it to evaporate and to release zirconium atoms, which are ionised and propelled towards the implant. Read more>>

Titanium Niobium Nitride (TiNbN)

An arc with high current density is run over the target material causing it to evaporate and to release titanium and niobium atoms, which are ionised and propelled towards the implant. Read more>>

Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC)

DLC coating is a metal-bearing, amorphous carbon layer. The coating consists of the elements chromium and carbon which will be converted into the desired DLC hard coating through a PVD process. Read more>>

Titanium Aluminium Nitride (TiAlN)

An arc with high current density is run over the target material causing it to evaporate and to release titanium and aluminium atoms, which are ionised and propelled towards the implant. Read more>>

Chromium Nitride (CrN)

An arc with high current density is run over the target material causing it to evaporate and to release chromium atoms, which are ionised and propelled towards the implant. Read more>>
