Diamond-Like Carbon Coatings (DLC)


Technology

DLC coating is a metal-containing, amorphous carbon layer. The coating consists of the elements chromium and carbon which are converted into the desired DLC hard coating through a PVD process.

  • Coating thickness: 0.5–2.5 µm
  • Roughness: Ra ≤ 0.05 µm
  • Adhesion strength: HF 1–3 (DIN 4856)
  • Hardness: ~700 HV
  • Low friction coefficient
  • Reduction of wear and therefore extension of life-time of tools
